Let children learn to organize, experience and lessons of children's toy storage

There are cute kids at home, and the toys are piled up like a mountain. The scene after each play is always a headache. No matter how beautiful the new home is, it can't withstand the "typhoon passing" of children. Today, I want to share with you my experience in toy storage, hoping to give you some inspiration who are also troubled.

I often feel powerless and frustrated when I see toys scattered all over the floor. I can’t help but feel an urge to say loudly: “I’ve had enough!” Since moving into my new home, nothing has been more urgent for me than creating a toy storage system that is both practical and meets the needs of our family.

Random storage methods often make it difficult to maintain order in the home for a long time - we seem to spend a lot of time reorganizing after each playtime of the children, which not only consumes our time and energy, but also greatly reduces the beauty of the home.

My experience and lessons are that the focus of toy storage should be placed on systematic storage tools and then combined with some storage methods.

Having a good toy storage system at home is not only tidy and beautiful, but also helps children learn to organize toys independently. After helping them tidy up a few times, you can then let them try to do it by themselves.

According to different needs, I classify toy storage boxes/boxes into categories

1. Good-looking

2. Very practical

3. Good-looking and practical

Finally, I attach some storage experience, let's take a look.

1. Good-looking

It has a full Nordic feel

It is also nice to put at home

You can often see some storage boxes on Instagram. Some of them are made into carts, some are made into baskets, and some are made into suitcases. They may not be very practical, but they are really beautiful!

Especially the bamboo cart below, which looks good anywhere in the house and can be used as a prop for children to take photos. The wheeled design makes it fun for children to learn to put away their toys by themselves - putting them away while walking.

Many children like to play in portable storage baskets like cradles. It is also fun to take newborn photos of babies. When not in use, they can be used to store miscellaneous items.

The suitcase is retro and beautiful, and can be used to carry some things when you go out for a few days.

Although the rattan house is small in size, it is very suitable for playing house games and can also hold some small toys.

Here I recommend a brand I like very much, big little noise. Their toys are natural and country style, and the colors are mostly macaron and wood color. They also have many toy storage products, which can be seen in many Nordic families.

There is another brand that does a good job with the trolley style, called oohnoo. This brand has several star products in the style of wheeled carts. The black and white design is simple and fashionable. Children can also use it as a toy to play for half a day. After all, children's play places are not fixed and can be pushed and placed anywhere.

Attention, LEGO fans! Here is a product you can't miss - the co-branded LEGO storage box jointly launched by Danish brand ROOM and LEGO. This storage box not only cleverly imitates the style of LEGO bricks, but also has colorful and beautiful appearance. Although its storage space may not be particularly large and its practicality is slightly insufficient, for LEGO fans, it is undoubtedly a beautiful and practical collection.

2. Very practical

Beautiful and practical.

"Pleasing to the eye and space-saving"

If you are pursuing home aesthetics and practicality, you may want to take a look at these selected home items. They are not only unique in appearance, but also powerful in functionality. They can be moved and placed at will to meet your diverse needs.

This Omnioutil multifunctional storage bucket from Japan is especially recommended. It not only has a spacious storage space, but also has an amazing appearance design. There are rich color options, from lively multi-color to simple black, white, gray and blue. There is always one that can perfectly fit into your home style and become a beautiful scenery in your home.

This multifunctional container stands out for its exceptional versatility. Not only is it perfect for storing children's toys, but it also earns parents' trust with its food-grade resin material, making it ideal for storing a variety of foods, including fruits, vegetables, and beverages. Whether it's a family picnic or outdoor activities, it is the perfect choice. Moreover, it can also serve as a bucket, conveniently portable to fishing spots or the beach for a relaxing leisure time.

Its size and weight-bearing capacity are 150 catties, so it can also be used as a stool, and there is no problem for children to step on it. There are many purchasing agents on Taobao, and friends who are interested can look for it.

Below are a few types of storage boxes that I think belong to the practical style. They are very common in Nordic families.

There are actually a lot of foldable hollow plastic baskets. HAY from Denmark and Aykasa from Turkey have many of the same models. They are similar in size, but the prices are much cheaper than the Japanese brands mentioned above.

Truscopro Tool, a brand hailing from Japan, is renowned for its profound understanding of home organization and its adherence to the Japanese minimalist aesthetic. The storage products of this brand are not only stylishly simple in appearance but also boast ample storage space, seamlessly fitting into the decor of most households. They come with a range of practical features, such as easy foldability, which makes them convenient to store when moving or not in use, and they can even serve as a temporary coffee table.

Muuto, a renowned brand from Denmark, is celebrated for its eco-friendly philosophy and natural, stylish designs. The brand's storage baskets are crafted from polymer felt material, which is not only environmentally friendly but also exudes a simple yet elegant aesthetic. These products can be found in YEPOM, a boutique furniture store specializing in Nordic home brands. Although the prices are on the higher side, the quality and design are well worth the investment. Additionally, the same products can be searched for on Taobao, offering consumers more purchasing options.

3. Good-looking and practical

It can make the best use of the depth space

It can also be well classified

Drawer-style storage boxes are highly recommended for their practicality, offering easy access and organized management. Compared to transparent storage boxes, white ones create a neater and more orderly visual impression with their clean appearance. Moreover, white storage boxes are convenient for both finding and storing items when used for categorized storage. For children's rooms, colorful storage boxes are more suitable, as their lively colors can stimulate children's interest and vitality. The design of slanted storage boxes allows for an at-a-glance view of the contents, making it easier to quickly locate needed items.

American brand Little Tikes and South Korean brand Step2 are globally renowned toy manufacturers, and they excel in the field of toy storage as well. Their products are loved by parents and children alike for their vibrant colors, whimsical designs, and ample storage capacity. The design of these storage boxes is particularly suitable for fostering children's independent storage skills, as they feature an easy-to-operate floor-level design that allows children to easily organize their toys without the need for adult assistance.

I have shared a lot of toy storage boxes above, but they are actually applicable to the storage of other items. Finally, let me talk about my experience and lessons in toy storage.

• Classify by frequency of use

Category the toys into those that are often played with and those that are not often played with. Put out the toys that are often played with (and good-looking at the same time), and put away the toys that are not often played with.

Toys that are not often played with can be rotated out every once in a while, which makes them as interesting as new toys and keeps them fresh for a while.

• By type

When there are too many toys, they will be spread out by children. If they are stuffed in randomly, it can only keep things tidy for a short time. It is better to sort the toys by different types.

This way, almost all the toys can be put away and organized. You can find them quickly and put them away quickly every time. You can put labels on the storage boxes and replace them with new labels later.

Items should be sorted according to their volume or size and placed in storage boxes of corresponding dimensions. Larger toys or a greater quantity of items should be stored in larger boxes, while fewer and smaller items are better suited for medium or small-sized boxes. Consciously categorizing by size allows for the rational use of storage space, ensuring that the organization is both orderly and efficient.

When it comes to organizing, color categorization is particularly applicable to Lego bricks. Given the wide array of colors and the small size of Lego pieces, it is recommended to sort them by color for storage. This not only facilitates easy access during play but also enhances the enjoyment of organizing by teaching children through color recognition.

For children with a limited number of toys, there is no need to purchase a large number of storage boxes and shelves at the outset. Opting for frame-style storage or making good use of wall space can be an economical and practical solution. This approach not only saves space but also meets the current storage needs of the child.

When faced with an abundance of toys, consider using a cabinet with multiple compartments for organized storage, or simply add more cabinets to meet the storage needs. Ensure that the height of the toy storage is suitable for the child's height, taking the child's line of sight as a reference, so they can easily reach and retrieve toys, and quickly put them back in place, thus helping them to develop good organizational habits from an early age.

Make full use of every nook and cranny in your home to avoid wasting space. For instance, corners by the walls, beside the bed, stairway corners, and under the bed are all places where you can cleverly place some storage facilities, thereby increasing the storage space. This kind of design is not only aesthetically pleasing but also effectively enhances the practicality of your home.
